The people that power WHOSAY are an incredible blend of advertising, technology and media professionals that foster a wonderful spirit of creativity, innovation and commitment. We aim for resilience, curiosity and bravery to bring the best work to our clients. Most importantly, we really care for and serve the brands we work with. At WHOSAY, great creative work is everyone’s agenda.
One of the WHOSAYers who lives by this mantra is our West Coast Sales Director, Michelle Merino. She is our newest guest in the series "Getting to Know You," where we get to showcase the outstanding members of our team and their journey within the company they’ve helped build into the world’s largest and most-trusted influence marketer—now a Viacom company.
WHOSAY: What’s the first thing you do as soon as you arrive in the office?
Michelle Merino: I review my calendar to see what meetings I need to prepare for and deadlines I need to hit such as RFP submissions, kick-off calls, and other client requests.
WS: What’s a typical day at WHOSAY like?
MM: Exciting! Every day is different with new client requests, meetings, scheduling and prepping for meetings, and prospecting—lots and lots of email outreach.
WS: What’s the most challenging part of your job? And what’s the part you enjoy the most?
MM: The constant change in the marketplace, it's like being a detective and a mind reader at the same time. My favorite part is definitely the launch of the campaign, to see everything come together as a team and say "we created this."
WS: What is your role at WHOSAY?
MM: Cultivate agency and brand relationships, present company capabilities and value proposition and pitch unique custom ideas/offerings.
WS: Who is someone at WHOSAY that inspires you and why?
MM: [CEO] Steve Ellis, his confidence and bold attitude make me believe anything is possible.
WS: What was your job before coming to WHOSAY?
MM: Director of Brand Partnerships for an Influencer platform.
WS: What’s your secret life hack and/or productive hack?
MM: Meditation for both!
WS: What don’t most people know about you?
MM: I'm half Chilean but don't know a word of Spanish besides “Hola.” Sorry, Nany!
WS: What do you want to achieve in the near and/or long-term?
MM: I'd like to achieve my sales goal for the year and double it next year.
WS: Share your advice with aspiring young people who want to break into your industry.
MM: Work harder than your peers (the old saying that sales never sleeps is true) and don't be afraid of rejection, if you get a “no” find the person that will give you a yes, never stop!
WS: What are your favorite books or quotes?
MM: “Whatever you are, be a good one”—Abraham Lincoln
WS: What is the best advice you have ever received?
MM: The purpose of life is the expansion of happiness.
