Getting to Know You: Stephen Glasco Is a Captain On and Off the Field

Slowly but surely, spring is finally making its way into our year. And one of our favorite rituals of the booming season is NYFEST, the media, entertainment and marketing industries soccer tournament, which this year will take place on Saturday, April 21 at Brooklyn Bridge Park's Pier 5 to benefit Play Study Win—an organization that provides after-school programming to children from underserved communities in and around NYC at no cost to them.

To celebrate, we sat with WHOSAY Account Manager, and captain of our soccer team, Stephen Glasco, for a new edition of our series Getting to Know You, where we showcase the stories of the outstanding women and men who have helped make WHOSAY into the world’s largest and most trusted influence marketer.

WHOSAY: What’s the first thing you do as soon as you arrive in the office?

Stephen Glasco: The first thing I do is to review my previous day's to-do list and prioritize my tasks for the day. I usually get in early to do this, so that I can be ready to hit the ground running before my inbox gets too full.

WS: What’s a typical day at WHOSAY like?

SG: No day at WHOSAY is ever typical :) My day really depends on how many campaigns I have running and on the needs of my clients...It also involves a lot of running up and down the stairs to confirm details with the media team!

WS: What’s the most challenging part of your job? And what’s the part you enjoy the most?

SG: Aside from running up and down the stairs, the most challenging part of the job is ensuring that I'm communicating effectively with all of my clients. Some clients have worked with us on a number of campaigns, while others are new to branded content and influence marketing. Part of management is being an effective teacher (which is my favorite part of the job!).

WS: What is your role at WHOSAY?

SG: I'm part of the fabulous Account Management team. Think of us as Team WHOSAY’s internal quarterbacks; making sure every team has what they need to create a successful campaign, monitoring progress and then relaying that success back to our clients.

WS: Who is someone at WHOSAY that inspires you and why?

SG: We all know that Nash is my biggest inspiration at WHOSAY. I mean, he's figured out how to make people love him by just laying around and looking cute (it helps that he's a puppy!). 😂 In all seriousness, I really admire Kittie. She works incredibly hard to protect WHOSAY interests and is a great teacher. Plus, she always has a great attitude even when she's swamped!

WS: What was your job before coming to WHOSAY?

SG: I worked at one of Millward Brown's consulting firms, Vermeer (now Kantar Consulting), working with brands on market positioning and consumer segmentation.

WS: What’s your secret life hack and/or productive hack?

SG: I use a secure electronic vault to save all my passwords and other info. It auto-populates any website login or electronic form, making those tasks incredibly fast and easy.

WS: What don’t most people know about you?

SG: I'm pretty loud, so most people probably know everything about me! One random fact is that I used to be a Eucharistic Minister at a Catholic church during college.

WS: What do you want to achieve in the near and/or long-term?

SG: The near-term goal is to get the plants in my backyard to grow, the long-term goal is world domination.

WS: Share your advice with aspiring young people who want to break into your industry.

SG: Don't be afraid to ask for help or worry about sounding "stupid" for asking questions. The marketplace is changing all the time and we have to keep learning from it.

WS: What’s unique about your company?

SG: WHOSAY is unique in that our process is always adapting to suit the needs of our clients and the changing landscape of social media. The ability to introduce a new idea (regardless of title or seniority) and have that adopted into our workflow is very rewarding.

WS: What are your favorite books or quotes?

SG: Harvey Milk (a personal hero of mine!) once said "I know that you cannot live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living. And you...And you...And you...Gotta give em hope.” []

WS: What is the best advice you have ever received?

SG: Don't take things too personally and don't let anyone else's bad mood bring you down. Control what you can control and leave the rest.
