Better marketing experiences built on better data and a Renaissance for the advertising industry are some of the 2018 predictions from the 212NYC Winter Gala 2018 honorees.
“As I look into the crystal ball, the future as I see it, it’s more data from consumers, more desire from a consumer for us to understand what they’re looking for, and what they want,” Salima Popatia, VP Global Online Marketing & Merchandising at Estee Lauder told 212NYC. “But it’s really about how we connect those data points together to deliver a really high touch experience no matter what media, no matter what channel, in the way we communicate with consumers.”
The event will celebrate the organization’s 15th anniversary. David Cohen, President North America, Magna Global and Popatia, VP Global Online Marketing & Merchandising at Estee Lauder are this year's honorees. Shenan Reed, President, CFO at Publicis Groupe will host the 212NYC Winter Gala 2018 'Crystal Ball,' which will take place in New York City on Thursday, March 29.
"One of the risks that we took in 2016, 2017 was to overtly stand up in front of rooms with clients and say, ‘you know what, linear television is a business that is not the same as it has been, consumption patterns are changing and we need to change too,'" honoree Cohen told 212NYC. "I do think that we are at an inflection point, where we’re going to be moving the conversation around efficiency to more of an effectiveness conversation. And I think that we’re going to have a Renaissance of marketing and advertising."
The annual 212NYC Winter Gala is the most distinguished digital media event of the year. The theme of this year’s Gala is ‘Crystal Ball’ and the purpose is to celebrate and honor members of the agency and publishing community. Over 250 industry professionals will be attending this black-tie event hosted by industry icons and notable celebrities.

As President, Chief Client Officer, Verizon, Shenan Reed oversees the client’s
Power of One solution, managing Verizon’s strategic activity across the
Publicis Groupe agencies serving its business and is responsible for creating
bespoke solutions that drive the Verizon business forward. An entrepreneurial
business leader with over 20 years of experience, Reed was most recently
President of the US L’Oréal Business at Wavemaker (formerly MEC), where
she oversaw the strategic direction of the agency’s partnership with the
beauty brand. Prior to her tenure at Wavemaker, Reed founded the digital
marketing agency Morpheus Media, which became renowned for its work with
premier luxury, fashion and retail clients. Over the course of her career, Reed
has worked with an impressive roster of blue-chip brands across various
categories including The New York Times, Neiman Marcus, LVMH, Net-A-
Porter, Lord & Taylor, Tiffany & Co., Chanel, A&E Networks, Vimeo, IFC,
Sundance and The Economist.
Innately driven to push boundaries and challenge the status quo, David heads MAGNA’s North America business driving investment, intelligence and innovation in his role as President. David also leads Global Partnerships for MAGNA and has helped set the overall vision and remit for the organization. MAGNA uses its best-in-class marketplace and audience intelligence to drive agility, efficiency and effectiveness for clients.
David has been with IPG Mediabrands since 2001 when he launched the digital practice at UM
as Interactive Media Director. A year later, he became a Senior Vice President, overseeing all
digital media strategy, planning, buying and analysis operations for the agency. In 2006, David
was named U.S. Director of Digital Communications. He was promoted in 2011 to Global Digital
Officer, and then elevated in 2013 to Chief Investment Officer.
David has been recognized as a “Media All-Star” by Adweek, one of the “Adweek 50” and an
“Online All-Star” by Media Magazine.
David served as the Chair of the 4A’s (American Association of Advertising Agencies) Digital
Marketing Committee from 2009-2012. He serves on the IAB Video and Advisory Board, as well
as Google, Facebook, and Snapchat advisory boards. In 2016, David was elected to the Board
of Directors of Partnership with Children a non-profit whose mission is to strengthen the
social, emotional and cognitive skills of vulnerable children in New York City.
David enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage daughters. A self-described gadget-
geek and sometimes fitness fanatic – he can talk for hours about the latest in high-tech gear.
Salima Popatia is the Vice President, Global Consumer Acquisition and Retention Team,
overseeing the marketing technology, operations and measurement strategies across The Estee
Lauder Companies portfolio of 30 leading prestige beauty brands. Key areas of focus are in
advancing capabilities in data and analytics to optimize and deliver optimal consumer experiences across ELC Online brand sites globally.
Salima began her Estee Lauder career in 2004 leading the MAC Cosmetics online business. In
2010, she helped establish the Digital Technology and Innovation Group within Estee Lauder
Companies online division.
Prior to rejoining Estee Lauder Companies, Salima was a Vice President at The Luxottica Group
focused on the North America e-commerce strategy for Ray-Ban across brand site and wholesale
channel of trades. Before that, she served as the Senior Vice President of Global Ecommerce and
Digital Strategy for footwear designer, Stuart Weitzman.
Salima holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and International Business from the Stern
School of Business at New York University.
