What do Oprah, President Obama, Beyoncé and Jay Z have in common? They’ve all danced to the rhythms of DJ Cassidy, the producer, MC, and influencer responsible for the 2017 summer anthem "Honest" featuring Grace & Lil Yachty.
Unbound by genre, Cassidy united pop superstars Robin Thicke and Jessie J with Earth Wind & Fire and Chic's Nile Rodgers for his debut single "Calling all Hearts." He did it again with R. Kelly, Luther Vandross, and Marcus Miller for "Make the World Go Round."
Chaka Khan, Chromeo, Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell, Russell Simmons, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Nas, Tommy Hilfiger, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and Anna Wintour are some of the other stars who have recognized Cassidy's unique ability to connect to everyone, everywhere.
Brands have also recognized his knack for connecting with and influencing his audience. Uniqlo, Brooks Brothers, Sony Electronics, Blackberry, Target, L'Uomo Vogue, Vanity Fair, Esquire, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes are some of the brands that have partnered with Cassidy for print, digital, and television projects.
We talked to the Renaissance man himself to learn more about his upcoming plans, what was it like to perform at Beyoncé and Jay Z's wedding, his favorite social media platforms, and his favorite summer things to do in New York City.
WHOSAY: After dropping the 2017 summer anthem "Honor" feat. Grace and Lil Yachty, what are you most excited to work on next?
DJ Cassidy: Summer is my favorite time of year to tour and to release music. I can't wait to get on the road later this month, starting with Cannes, Monte Carlo, and Milan, to bring incredible summer vibes to the party people around the globe. I'm particularly excited to bring my new single, "Honor" feat. Grace & Lil Yachty to dance floors everywhere I go and also debut some amazing genre-bending remixes.
WS: We are big Beyonce fans here at WHOSAY, what was it like to perform at Beyoncé and Jay Z’s wedding?
DJC: Performing for your idols has always been surreal, a true privilege for which I never cease to be grateful. Jay and Bey are simply the greatest. They redefine the term power couple in so many ways. To be called on by them to bring the celebration to so many of their defining moments, both professional and personal throughout the years has been a dream. But simply put, making the greatest dancer dance is THE BEST.
WS: As an influencer, what do you look for when working with brands?
DJC: I only work with brands that I believe in and I only work with brands that I can enhance. We need to share in something—goals, values, aesthetic, anything, and I need to be able to help them grow in some way.
WS: What do you think your followers expect from you on social?
DJC: My followers expect a visual journal and a visual inspiration. Every picture I post either chronicles my life and times or captures a little gem of eye candy through my eyes...or both. I don't have a posting schedule, I don't have a posting team. I simply post when I feel like sharing and my followers like that.
WS: What's your favorite social platform and why?
DJC: I engage more on Instagram than any other platform. One photo says a lot. My captions have become shorter and shorter. A picture says a thousand words.
WS: What is/are your favorite(s) summer tune(s) of all time
WS: What is/are your favorite(s) things to do during a New York summer?
DJC: Riding the Cyclone in Coney Island, eating steamers at The Lobster Roll in Amagansett, and watching the rowboats in Central Park.
DJ Cassidy will be performing at WHOSAY’s Summer Kick Off Party on May 18.
