Tim Hardaway was born in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Carver High School in
Chicago, Hardaway attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where he won the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award as the best college player six feet tall or under. Hardaway was selected as the 14th pickIn his best seasons, Hardaway averaged 18 to 23 points and 8 to 10 assists per game. He reached 5,000 points and 2,500 assists faster than any NBA player, except Oscar Robertson. Hardaway has competed in five NBA All-Star Games.

He is the Miami Heat's all time leader in assists and together with center Alonzo Mourning led the Heat to some of the franchise's best seasons.He was an MVP candidate following the 1996-97 season, making it to the All-NBA First Team after leading the Heat to the best record in franchise history while averaging 20.3 points, 8.6 assists, and being fourth in the league with 203 three-point baskets. Hardaway was originally selected to play for "Dream Team II" in the 1994 World Basketball Championship. He was also selected for the 1998 World Basketball Championship team. In 2000, he finally got his opportunity to play before the world stage in the Sydney Olympics where he scored 5.5 points per game.

Hardaway holds the record for most assists in Miami Heat franchise history. In 1991-92,
Hardaway became the 7th player in NBA history to average 20 points and 10 assists in a season,a feat he accomplished again in 1992-93. Hardaway holds the NBA record for the worst single game shooting performance in NBA history, having gone 0 for 17 in a 106-102 victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves on December 27, 1991. He was the 1989 WAC Player of the Year.

Tim Hardaway went to Beijing for the NBA before the last Olympics, and went again this past September for the NBA’s Asian Challenge. Most recently, was one of the guests of honor at the Buoniconti Fund Sports Legends Gala. Culminating Tim Hardaway’s professional basketball, the Miami Heat will retire Tim Hardaway's number 10 on October 28, 2009.

After a life of plentiful accomplishments on the court, Tim Hardaway established his named Foundation in November 2008. The Tim Hardaway Foundation was designed to develop programs and support community-based organizations that address health, educational and socioeconomic needs of children and families in South Florida and beyond. Over the next few months, the Tim Hardaway Foundation will award money to community-based organizations that focus primarily on education, health and fitness. In addition, the Foundation will support more than 100 minority high school students with scholarships for tuition and summer programs, particularly summer basketball camps. Through this funding, the Tim Hardaway Foundation will give students an opportunity to improve their health, hone in their basketball skills and stay out of trouble.

The Foundation works to develop programs and support community-based organizations that address the educational, health and socio-economic needs of ethnically diverse urban communities. In addition, the Tim Hardaway Foundation has focused efforts on giving voice to the voiceless in Haiti. By funding the construction of homes for impoverished families, the Tim Hardaway Foundation will establish livable conditions and give many children a healthy life to look forward to on the island.

After Tim Hardaway’s legacy on the court, the NBA Superstar hopes to works tenaciously to Give Voice to the Voiceless in local, national, and international communities.
