Happy Fathers Day to my Daddy, Farrell Howard
My Daddy taught me that, being "A Dad” is summed up in one word, LOVE. He showed me through ACTIONS that LOVE pushes you towards all of the other hats you wear as a Dad..(Protector, Provider, Teacher, Husband, Disciplinary, Friend, Mentor etc…) He taught me that Love makes them pleasurable rather than burdensome. He taught me that Love makes you do things you don’t feel like, because you know others are depending on you.
He taught me to fish, hunt, ride a bike, ride motorcycles, ride a horse, drive a tractor, drive a nail, back a trailer, build a house, drive a stick shift, frog gig, catch snakes without getting bit, turn wrenches, shave, how to carry myself in public, to always be willing to care for the elderly or people less fortunate, to be self sufficient, work for myself, promise less and deliver more, be a great employee, respect women, whittle, shoot a gun, fight, embalm, protect people who cannot protect themselves, be kind to animals, breed & care for dogs, have patience, respect others and most importantly that Jesus Christ of Nazareth died for me and if I place my faith in Him alone, I too would be resurrected after death and live forever. (And for a guy that loves to live, That’s Cool.)
He would say that Love is complete and causes success in everything else you put your hand to. If you love your job, you won’t be a bad employee. If you love your wife, you won’t mistreat her, if you love your dog, you won’t kick him, if you love yourself, you will eat healthy & you won’t drink and do drugs, and most importantly, IF YOU LOVE YOUR KIDS, YOU WILL NOT ABANDON THEM, no matter what your wife does to piss you off, or how hot the chicks appear to you. And when you fail at something as all of us do, get back up and move forward.
HE WOULD ALWAYS SAY, IF A MAN ABANDONS HIS KIDS, HE HAS HATE RATHER THAN LOVE FOR THEM, NO MATTER HOW HE CHOOSES TO JUSTIFY HIS ACTIONS.
Well Daddy, as I always tell Leo, Every Day Is Fathers Day. lol There isn’t a day goes by that I don’t use the skills that you taught me and I thank you for it. You could have ran off with another woman, made another family, spread your wings and flew away like many others Dads do, but you didn’t. You always LOVED your family. Through better or worse, richer and poorer, sickness and in health you stayed and you Loved. And for this I am one of the few people I know that did not come from a broken family. Thank you for that. And because of your faith in Jesus the Christ, The Originator of Love, I will see you again one day. But this time, I’m gonna teach you a few cool things. LOL Happy Fathers Day Daddy. You are missed.
