"But I thought Charlotte already had the babies?"

Okay, I got this tweet A LOT today so I'm gonna try to clear this up for you.

In last night's episode, you saw Charlotte still on bed rest -- still pregnant with two of the triplets. But in the Christmas episode, you saw Charlotte IN LABOR on her way to give birth to those to babies. How come?

Time.

This season, as the first episode suggested (and as we have suggested in each episode since) time does not progress from episode to episode. Because we are telling individual character stories, time overlaps on itself often. So Charlotte can be on bed rest in Amelia's episode and done with bed rest in her episode. Because time moves differently in each episode. We did subtle stuff to show this. For instance, Addison wears her engagement ring in one episode and not in the next because the engagement hasn't happened yet. But the biggest and most obvious way we did it was with Charlotte's pregnant belly which grew and shrank and shrank and grew as necessary.

Confusing? Yes. Helpful for the kind of stories we wanted to tell this season? Absolutely.

There are only 2 episodes left of Private Practice. I'm busy working with editor Christal Khatib to lock picture on the series finale as we speak. I'm not gonna lie and say I haven't shed a tear or two. It's strange to say goodbye to characters that I have spent so much time with.
