Today’s 10,000 Pound Challenge Tip: Sloooow down your eating.
Research shows that you eat about 10% fewer calories at meals when you slow down your pace. That’s because your body has more time to respond and release appetite-suppressing hormones, so you don’t wind up eating past the point of fullness. To draw out your meal, set down your fork and take sips of water between bites, chew your food thoroughly, and join in on the conversation if you’re eating with others. If you’re dining solo, it may help to set a kitchen timer to help prevent you from rushing, at least until you retrain yourself to eat at a more leisurely pace. Use these strategies at every meal, and you’re sure to give your weight loss a boost.
