She started drinking at the Cedar Tavern in 1947, right after graduating from Wheaton and moving to Greenwhich Village to become an artist. Milton Resnick lived above her loft and they became best friends (like Patti Smith and Mapplethorp much later but while they were all still unknown), Hans Hoffman across the street mentored her. She hated Clement Greenberg but loved Franz Klein, her first true love, like no other. Forgave Pollack for ripping her blouse off and was a founding member of the March Gallery on Tenth Street where her friend Elaine de Kooning was a member too. She's 88 years old and hasn't stopped painting all these years. Joann Gedney is one fascinating lady -pictured here in her 12th street studio against an epic painting from the early 70's.
