Here's a photo so rare, i haven't seen it in over 33 years. My final show with brand before meeting Billy Idol, The Fine Malibus. Playing the Ritz NYC 1981. I had just secured an endorsement with Hamer Guitars, and this was my first guitar from them. The band band, crew and family all live in an unfurnished loft on west 30th street Manhattan. Ate lots of mac & cheese, when we did eat. Wouldn't trade those days for anything. Learned how to survive and thrive.
It's a throwback Thursday of the hairiest kind. This looks to be the Limelight nightclub NYC...around 1988. Seated left to right....Tommy Gun of Grandmaster Flash, Nicky Camp (club promoter) yours truly, Kenny Aaronson (bassist for Billy Idol 1988) Adam Bomb singer guitarist.
Billy Idol, "Rebel Yell" - 100 Best Singles of 1984: Pop's Greatest Year
Hot 100 Peak: Number 46"White Wedding" had already made Billy Idol an MTV star before he released 1983's Rebel Yell.
Thanks to USA Today for naming the new Billy Idol single "You Can't Break Me Down" song of the week.
5 days a week for over two years, i'd enter this structure to board the A train into Manhattan from Far Rockaway. I attended Laguardia high school in midtown. It was an hour and a half each way....and i wouldn't have changed a thing.
This is a throwback of a different sort. When i was 13 years old, my parents bought me my first electric guitar & amp made by Univox. I had been playing a $65.00 Giannini nylon for 5 years prior. Playing nylon for 5 years before electric gave me a great foundation in folk and classical.
