Today marks an incredible victory in the fight for animal rights, with the startling announcement by Ringling Bros that they are phasing out elephant acts in their circuses and will have ZERO elephants in their shows by 2018. This senseless, cruel and unusual treatment of elephants for "entertainment" purposes has gone on far too long, 145 years to be exact. Though it should've been stopped long ago, this decision gives me hope that our voices are being heard. We have refused to stand silently while this abuse continues around the world and the Ringling Bros institution could no longer drown out the sounds of our collective disdain. This is true progress. This is recognition that animals lives have value that belongs far outside the bounds of human control and they should be treated as such. Revered even. If you've ever spoken up about this issue, voiced your concern, took a stand - congratulations. This is your victory. Keep fighting.
Ivana. My mentor in life, my guiding light, my f-ing woman. You have helped me navigate the treacherous waters we inevitably encounter while attempting to thrive, or rather survive in this industry. You are to me what you are to everyone; their lifeline. We run to you for our craft, but also for your insight, knowledge and unique understanding of the human being. Thank you for the last 11 years. I've grown as an actor, but more importantly as a person. There is not a day that goes by where your words and wisdom are not applied in some form. Who would I be without you? Who would any of us be without you? You have earned every single drop of praise you've received overseas and around the world. Breathe it in lady! It's yours!
We did it! Higher Ed passed #AB147!!! Assemblymember @MattDababneh, you are amazing and one hell of a speaker and @shannonkeith, your heart, your compassion and your desire to give these animals a life after they've been tested on, abused, and threatened with euthanasia is nothing short of miraculous. What a long day, a beautiful day, a day that has left me with a fire burning inside my soul- round two is next- Senate, here we come! The fight isn't over, but thanks to all of you- the thousands of you that called in earlier- we cleared the first hurdle. I love you guys. Truly.
Please please everyone let's take a second to like Assemlymember @MattDababneh 's page. Matt, thank you for your "yes". Thank you for making this issue a priority and thank you for being a trailblazer in California's fight to perpetuate the humane treatment of all animals. I love your desire to set an example. Without your initial "yes", none of this would've been possible. You're a hero. As I've always said, we have two motivators in life; love and fear. Thank you for letting love, your love of animals, and for what's right, drive this to the finish line. We're not there yet but we're one step closer.
HELP! I need you guys! We have one hour before the hearing. Please call and encourage Assembly members Evan Low at 9163192028 and Jacqui Irwin at 9163192044 to support this legislation. YES to AB147 supporting the right for cats and dogs to be adopted after they've been tested on.
