November 4, 2011To de-seed a whole pomegrante, first take a very thin slice off the top (crown) end of the pomegranate (just enough to reveal the white flesh & seeds). Then, score the outside skin by slicing the rind from top to bottom 4 times to divide the pomegranate into quarters (you want to cut deeply enough to slice through the rind but NOT cut into the seeds/arils). Fill a large bowl with cold water and place the pomegranate in the bowl. Gently break the pomegranate in half along your score lines, and then break each half in half again so you end up with four quarters. Working under water, gently loosen the seeds/arils from the fleshy membranes. The seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl, and the fleshy membranes will float to the top. When all the seeds have been loosened, discard the large pieces of membrane and pour off the water to drain the seeds. Your delicious pomegranate seeds are now ready to eat!
