January 3, 2012Today’s 10,000 Pound Challenge Tip: Eliminate liquid calories. Catapult your weight loss into high gear by cutting out ALL sugary beverages, including sodas, fancy coffee drinks, flavored sugar-sweetened waters, sports drinks, lemonade, sweetened iced tea… even fruit juice. While fruit juice offers more nutrition than other beverages, it's still concentrated in calories and sugar—and all sugary beverages can be a major hindrance to weight loss. For now, you’ll also want to bypass all booze, including wine, beer, and cocktails (but don’t worry, you’ll have an option to enjoy an occasional drink again starting in the third week of the plan).

Starting today, give these liquid fat traps the boot and instead quench your thirst with calorie-free options like water, naturally flavored seltzer, and unsweetened coffee and tea. If you must sweeten your morning brew, stick with a daily total of 1 to 2 teaspoons sugar or other sweetener max.
