- 01 May 2012 TONIGHTS THE NIGHT, COME CELEBRATE TONIGHT....... ***NEW WORK*** by Cowboy Ray Kelly @ #OrchardWindowsGallery, 37 Orchard street on the Lower East Side. A true American original who colonized the LES when the buildings were vacant, the heroin rampant and the art scene unheard (I like that, art scene unheard, sounds like a title for a curatorial project?) Anyways, come celebrate a man, an artist, sculptor, and yes, cowboy, who dedicated his life bending to no one but the re-bar. See you there!

- 15 June 2012 Charcoal study of Mike Kelley for The West Coast Wailing Wall (an installation/painting by de la Haba) What drives one to suicide? I've often thought of taking my own life, but later, much, much later, like my mentors Hemingway, Gonzo, Rothko, and Arbus. I believe its something almost pre-programed in my DNA to go by way of my own hand but not, God forbid, out of pain and suffering like those admired and mentioned above. I always envisioned my dead corpse resting in front of an easel, preserved somehow like Eva Peron's or Stalin's, in the studio, sitting in a favorite chair, paintings all around, some by artist friends but mostly my own; the final performance as final resting place as lasting work of art. How cool would it be to go upstairs at The Player's Club on Gramercy Park and not only see the room of Edwin Booth, the greatest 19th century actor, as it was when he died but to see him resting there on his bed as well? I've always been a fan of the macabre, of artists like Peter Joel Witkin, and in all things pertaining to death. Do not get me wrong, I do not condone suicide, it pains me horribly when those that have so much in the eyes of many can no longer see clearly in theirs. What drives people like Mike Kelley to their final act and what is it about death that attracts so many? May selfish creation forever trump self inflicted extinction.
- 10 October 2012 A meeting of legendary men @delahaba1 studio today: authors/dope smugglers/producers Allan Weisbecker (Miami Vice, Cosmic Banditos, In Search of Captain Zero) and Richard Stratton (founder/editor of High Times and Prison Life magazines). Their life stories are the stuff movies are made of. The unbelievable ones.
- 26 April 2012 ART OPENING AND RODEO Curated by Gregory de la Haba Orchard Windows Gallery, NYC Come throw a few back with the infamous Cowboy Ray Kelly, sculptor and art maverick, man about town and Lower East Side original. As a young man he was Motherwell's favorite bartender. As a young artist he was Rothko's painting assistant for three years during the building of the Rothko Chapel in Houston. As a young man he founded the Rivington School and No Se No social club/art gallery on NY's Lower East Side where everyone from Debbie Harry to Keith Haring stopped in for the one dollar beers and when, in the 1980's, he turned empty, needle infested, lots into welcoming sculpture gardens for all to enjoy. He is a living legend, one who helped transform our great city into the art center that it is, especially on the LES when no one, no one, except crazy, broke, artists wanted to be there. I'll personally be making a specialty cocktail called the COWBOY for this opening on May 1. It'll have a kick like a crazy bronco. Come drink with the past as we celebrate the present in the new work of Cowboy Ray Kelly and toast all our futures. Cheers!
- 22 September 2012 And as the red lights turned on the crowd gathered en masse. Was an exceptional opening for #LoveAndPaint creator #AlexanderEsquerra @ Orchard Windows Gallery on the Lower East Side, September 20, 2012. Honored to have curated UNIVERSAL TRUTH for such an ambitious young artist whose vision revealed itself in a tongue (and cheek or two) understood by all: love. Many thanks to photographers Alannah Farrell and Shawn Hayes who took these photos.
