Evan Starkman

Evan was born in the small town of Perth, Ontario, with a population of 5,000. As a youngster in Canada, Evan pursued that to which all other Canadians aspire: a career in hockey. Having accumulated several accolades throughout his adolescence, Evan headed south to continue his hockey career. After years of living out of his suitcase, he took a break from hockey to explore his other passion: travel. Leaving the continent at only 17, Evan spent the next three months backpacking solo throughout Europe.
 
Returning home revitalized, Evan accepted a hockey scholarship to a small prep school in Maine. Re-focused, he excelled on and off the ice, becoming valedictorian and earning a full hockey scholarship to Cornell University. Before arriving at Cornell, Evan again took the summer to travel throughout Central America. It was during this trip that he learned about the desperate situation which affected Guatemalans and co-founded the ‘Guatemalan Stove Project’: a non-profit organization that builds safe cooking stoves for rural villages. At Cornell, Evan earned the prestigious designation of ‘College Scholar,’ allowing him to pursue an Independent Study which he titled ‘How to Change the World,’ while continuing to run his non-profit organization.
 
In the fall of 2005, MTV set out to find new on-air personalities. Evan’s charisma and charm helped him beat out over 500,000 other applicants and earned him a spot on ‘MTV’s The Challenge’ as well as propelled him into a full time host for MTV Canada. As a new addition to the MTV family, Evan co-hosted “MTV Live,” a daily variety show interviewing celebrities and musicians as well as producing both in studio and street level newsworthy pieces for MTV Canada. Evan has continued his work with MTV as co-host of the hit “Aftershow,” current host of the Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler Blackholm, and as a participant on subsequent seasons of ‘The Challenge’. In addition to his MTV duties, Evan has lent his talents to ‘AndPop,’ Canada’s foremost entertainment source, as host of VirginFest and CrewFest. As a result, Evan has interviewed Bands such as Oasis, Foo Fighters, Motley Crew and The Kooks. To diversify his resume further, Evan recently signed on with XM Radio to host ‘Below The Belt,’ a weekly comedic entertainment synopsis show which has received rave reviews.
