More About Me

Bob Irwin and I, on board the MY Steve Irwin, named after Bob's son and Australian icon, Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter. Bob was kind enough to visit the Sea Shepherd southern operations base in Williamstown, Melbourne, to see off myself and the crew before Operation Relentless.

The Balleny Islands in Antarctica are a series of uninhabited, heavily glaciated islands. The group includes three main islands: Buckle, Young and Sturge. As the MV Sam Simon and the MV Bob Barker passed these islands during Operation Relentless, their water surrounds were full of feeding whales, both mothers and their calves, targeted by the Japanese whaling fleet. #SeaShepherd

A humpback whale dives beneath the surface, showing his flukes. Whale species like the humpback are in danger during the Antarctic summer, as the Japanese whaling fleet head South to the Southern Ocean whale sanctuary to kill whales for so-called scientific research.
