  • 21 July 2012 Meet Diego, a shelter pup rescued by friends of mine, Tyla and Adam. Diego was surrendered to the Animal Welfare League by neglectful owners, but now lives happily in his loving home. An estimated 5 million unwanted cats and dogs are killed in shelters each year - that's one pet every six and half seconds! - making adoption the ethical choice when considering a new family pet.

Elissa Sursara is an Australian ecologist, conservationist, correspondent and filmmaker using environmental biology to connect humans, wildlife and the environment.

Working with some of the world's top environmental advocacy organisations, Elissa builds political, scientific and social support for threatened species and habitats.

She is the celebrity ambassador and scientific advisory board member for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and ambassador to the WWF's Earth Hour among other organizations, and acts as a spokesperson for a number of environmental issues affecting wildlife, including deforestation, climate change and poaching.
