Be the first to like this on WhoSay

September 28, 2012I encountered this young Kurdish shepherd tending his sheep on Mt. Ararat at around 10,000' elevation. He didn't speak a word of English. He shared his bread and fresh cheese with me; I shared my energy bars with him. We sat in silence eating. Then we both stood up, nodded, smiled, he went back to his sheep, and I went back to climbing the mountain. People interact differently over there. They are very poor, but will happily give you all they have. As I sat there eating the food this poor shepherd was sharing with me, I felt embarrassed by the greed and stinginess of the "elite" I rub elbows with back home. (photo by Donna D'Errico)
