American Pickers premiered on History, on January 18, 2010. As of September 8, 2010, it was the #1 new fiction series of 2010 among total viewers and adults 25-54.
The show is in its 6th successful season of filming and Colby’s part is
growing rapidly. Colby has been featured multiple times on the road with Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe and has an ever-expanding fan base on social media.
Danielle Colby had been a close friend of Mike Wolfe for ten years before the concept of the show had even been developed.
Once the show was sold to the History Channel, Wolfe asked Colby to
work at the office of the antique shop, Antique Archaeology, because he "wanted someone that did not look like they would work in any antique shop because I wanted our show to be looked at in a different way. I wanted people to look at antiques like they're fun, they're rad, they're killer, they're awesome. I wanted people to know that they didn't have to have a blue blazer and ten cats to be an antique dealer.”
Early on Colby was inspired by her neighbor Juana Rumble of the Windy City Rollers to explore roller derby. Colby had a 4 year roller derby career, owning and operating Iowa roller derby team “The Big Mouth Mickies” until injuries forced her to retire. At that time she turned her attention full time to the art of burlesque owning the “Burlesque le’Moustache” troupe and producing many successful Broadway style burlesque reviews. To this day she pursues her career with burlesque, performing in Chicago, New York, Burlesque Festival, Nashville, Detroit, Iowa, New Orleans and beyond. Empowering women is an important subject for Colby.
Colby’s newest obsession is producing the “Iowa Burlesque Festival”,
Iowa’s very first burlesque festival, featuring the very best artists from all over the world, including her friend Tempest Storm, an 85-year-old dancer who passed through the orbits of Elvis Presley and John F. Kennedy The second annual Iowa Burlesque Festival will take place October 25, 2014.
An upcoming documentary on Tempest Storm is currently in production and Colby is an Executive Producer on the project. The film is 40% complete and was the only feature documentary selected to present at TIFF’s 2013 Industry’s Pitch This!
