Buzz Aldrin is a former astronaut and author who is best known for participating in the first lunar landing mission, Apollo 11, and for being the second man ever to step foot on the moon.

Buzz attended the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York in 1946. He graduated third in his class in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Buzz went on to serve as a jet fighter pilot for the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

From the military, Buzz moved on to work for NASA in 1963, piloting Apollo 11, the first successful moon-landing mission in history. After Neil Armstrong, Buzz was the second astronaut to ever step foot on the moon. He eventually left NASA in 1972 to return to the Air Force, where he retired after 21 years of active service.

Buzz has authored many books about his work with NASA, including "Return to Earth," "Reaching for the Moon," and "Mission to Mars." In 2010, Buzz appeared as a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" with partner Ashly Costa.
