Neil Gaiman is definitely a man of his word. The bestselling author promised to read aloud from Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham” if the nonprofit Worldbuilders raised $500,000 during their fundraising campaign. When they reached their goal with five days to spare, Neil took to YouTube with a copy of the beloved children’s book in hand.

Neil explains his scruffy appearance on his blog: “As you can see, I am very beardy, because I am not going out in public, and am just writing.”

We’re just happy to hear that the bestselling author is busy at work on his latest project. Could it be a screenplay for the latest TV adaptation of “American Gods”? We can only hope. Check out his heartwarming video here.

Founded by author Patrick Rothfuss, Worldbuilders donates all proceeds from its fundraising campaign to Heifer International, a charity that aims to end poverty and starvation through promoting education, sustainable agriculture, and local industry. In addition to Neil Gaiman, Rothfuss recruits other creative friends to auction off signed books, film frames, and more. Check out the Worldbuilders eBay page before the fundraiser ends tonight.
