"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," starring Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Luke Evans, debuted at the No. 1 spot both on the United States and U.K.'s box offices after a successful promotional tour (including premiers in Berlin and Madrid) helping excite the massive following of the fantasy adventure franchise.
And, even after three weeks of its release, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continues to "dwarf the cinematic competition," dominating competing films such as "Frozen" and "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" to remain on top of the box office with an estimated domestic gross of $190 million dollars.
