What Do You Think of Michael Cera's First Music Album?

Michael Cera pulled a Beyoncé and released an entire album out of nowhere.

In the true tradition of Michael Cera’s character, the actor quietly released an entire album, "True That," via Bandcamp. It was actor Jonah Hill who first dropped news of the album’s release:

Um, okay. We’re into it.

And we think you will be too, considering it’s actually pretty good. Instrumentally focused, folksy and lo-fi, Cera has a sort of retro-influenced, sad sound, randomly featuring samples and clips.

His Bandcamp site describes the music as “alternative” and “home recording.” He also described the music as “hello,” “modest,” and “dirty,” but we haven’t quite figured those out yet. And his artist bio? “Michael Cera was born in Canada in 1988 at the tender age of zero.” We love it!

You can buy the weird but pleasant album for only seven dollars, which is a steal for probably the most random thing you’ve bought this year. Thanks, Jonah, for clueing us in to this gem!
