Kate Burton to Return to "Grey's Anatomy"back in action
The actress will reprise her role as Meredith's mother, Ellis Grey, this season.
Last season on "Grey's Anatomy," viewers learned that Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey has yet another surprise family member...and this one conveniently also works at Seattle Grace.
Margaret Pierce (Kelly McCreary) appeared as the new head of cardio in the season 10 finale of the ABC hit drama. It was later revealed in a conversation with the former Chief Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) that she was actually Meredith's half sister, whom the late Ellis Grey gave up for adoption.
Of course, showrunner Shonda Rhimes couldn't leave us hanging like that without a little more information, and now according to TVGuide we know we can expect that. Kate Burton is set to reprise her role as Meredith's mother, Ellis.
"It's not a thing where we're going in and backdating," Rhimes explained about the development. "It's literally always been layered into the story line. We can literally go back and pull out moments of the show and I'm excited to do so, and point out where it was talked about. It's not going to be so hard to do."
"Grey's Anatomy" returns to ABC next month with all new episodes.
