The actress fields fan questions about her new book.
Move over, Dear Abby: Liv Tyler is on a mission to spread good manners.
The star actress recently collaborated with her grandmother Dorothea Johnson (a renowned etiquette expert) on Modern Manners: Tools to Take You to the Top, an etiquette guide for the 21st century. Available now, the book teaches readers how to be on their best behavior in every situation, from making cell phone calls to sending Facebook messages.
Liv spent some time on Twitter answering fan questions about her book and sharing her thoughts on proper conduct. Check out her responses below.
@KyaraCrazy: What inspired you to write this book?
Liv: It was my amazing grandmother who asked me if I would join her in writing this book.
@FanLivTyler: What is your favorite part of the book?
Liv: I really enjoyed getting to work with the illustrator Julia Rothman on all of the illustrations.
@CharmandHappy: Hi Liv, that's one book I plan to get. Will your manners include how to have charm?
Liv: It's always charming when someone is elegant and has good manners.
@ichumarugin: What was the most valuable thing you learned in the process of cowriting this book?
Liv: Trust your instincts, be brave, and follow your heart. If you have a great idea, go after it, see it through, don’t give up on it.
@Carly__: Your book sounds wonderful...What are your favorite flowers to decorate your home when entertaining?
Liv: Thank you so much!! My favorite flowers are peonies and cherry blossoms.
@darrel_willman: You seem to be very creative with your photography. Is writing as enjoyable as your other creative pursuits?
Liv: My three secret passions are photography, singing and writing.
@PlowStr8: I found the phrase "finding a balance with technology" in the Amazon description of [the book] interesting. An example?
Liv: Try sleeping with your phone in another room and put your phone on silent when eating dinner with friends and family.
@lisam2107: Is it old-fashioned to greet people with a handshake? I'm not comfortable air kissing and cuddling new people.
Liv: I love a good firm handshake!! It's always in fashion…
