“Avengers: Age of Ultron”: Stan Lee Talks Cameos and ComicsAvengers Assemble
Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee confirms his cameo in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
With a few exceptions, fans of superhero movies can usually count on one thing when watching a Marvel movie: a delightful cameo by comic icon Stan Lee! So it’s no surprise that he’ll be making an appearance in next year’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” as well.
The former Marvel Comics president and chairman confirmed his upcoming bit role at a July 11 press conference at the London Film and Comic Con. During the event, Stan spoke proudly about the expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its impact on Hollywood over the years. Oh, and he dropped a hint about which Avenger he might be sharing screen time with, too.
"Actually, the movies have been great," Stan said. "We have been so lucky. We've got the best directors, the best special effects people...wonderful actors. People that had not been big stars before—like the fellow who plays Thor [Chris Hemsworth]—he's wonderful! I was with him yesterday. I did my cameo, of course."
Stan also joked that Warner Bros. would be smart to hire him to make an appearance in Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” "DC could probably make a lot more money with ‘Superman and Batman’ if they announced that I'd have a cameo in it,” he quipped. “People wouldn't believe it—they'd have to go to the theater to see it!"

In his cameos, the 91-year-old legend typically appears when you least expect it—as a hot dog vendor in 2000’s “X-Men”; as Hugh Hefner in 2008’s “Iron Man”; and most recently in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” as a Smithsonian security guard who discovers that Cap’s World War II suit has gone missing. With this lengthy resume in mind, we can only imagine the character he’ll play in “Age of Ultron.”
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” opens in theaters in 2015. But comic fans can get their superhero fix next month when Marvel’s next flick, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” blasts into cinemas on August 1. And yes, keep an eye out for Stan in that one as well!
