Nooo! Not Daryl Dixon!

By now, fans of AMC’s hit zombie drama “Walking Dead” know that no one—and we do mean no one—is safe on the show. We’ve bid farewell to many a beloved main player, as well as some not-so-beloved ones. But if everyone’s favorite crossbow-wielding apocalypse survivor Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) bites the dust, producers might just have a full-fledged uprising on their hands. (“If Daryl dies, we riot” has long been the battle cry of loyal “Walking Dead” heads.)

So, why the renewed anxiety over Mr. Dixon’s well-being? Fans’ latest concerns come from a recent photo released by AMC teasing the series’ upcoming fifth season. The alarming image, which was first published on EW, shows our hirsute hero bloodied, bruised, bound, and gagged. Gasp!

“You may want to sit down for this…” AMC tweeted on July 14.

In June, Reedus promised fans a “dynamic” fifth season. “These scripts are the best scripts so far, and I’m really just excited to be back at it,” Reedus told EW. “There are a lot of characters right now, so there are a lot of really different personalities on set. And it’s super interesting, everyone’s really bringing it. It’s going great. It’s so dynamic because it’s so fast-paced and so complicated. It’s great to be back.”

When we last saw the Grimes Gang at the end of Season 4, the creepy folks of Terminus had shoved the ragtag crew into an empty train car. Were they the ones who did this to Daryl? More importantly, will he make it out alive? Or should fans start readying their riot gear?

Alas, we won’t know Daryl’s fate—or anyone else’s—until October, when Season 5 of the wildly popular post-apocalyptic show returns to AMC. But until then, share your theories in the comments below.
