After Carrie Underwood’s successful debut in “Sound of Music,” it shouldn’t come as a surprise that NBC is rebooting another classic musical: "Peter Pan." But what's really got us excited is who's been cast in the role of Captain Hook.

NBC president Bob Greenblatt announced that the iconic role in the live-action film will be played by none other than Oscar winner Christopher Walken.

Walken is no stranger to musicals on the big screen, having already starred in the film version of Broadway’s “Hairspray.” He can currently be seen in Clint Eastwood’s movie adaptation of the musical “Jersey Boys.”

“This might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you’ve ever seen,” Greenblatt joked to journalists. Greenblatt also noted he wanted Kristen Bell to star as the title role, but due to the actress’ filming schedule on “House of Lies,” the timing didn't work out.

Still, fans who are used to Peter Pan being played by the likes of Mary Martin shouldn’t worry.

“Peter’s going to be female,” Greenblatt promised, adding that the casting process is nearing completion.

Given that “Hairspray” producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will return to help bring the J.M. Barrie story to life, it’s pretty safe to say that no matter who the final cast is, we’ll see a star-studded production worthy of a Broadway classic.

What do you think of Walken’s newest role?
