Here's a 1987 video of Ian McKellen reciting Shakespeare's "Twentieth Sonnet" to the psychedelic music of The Fleshtones on MTV's "Andy Warhol's Fifteen Minutes."
Talk about an awesome blast from the past.
A video of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" star Sir Ian McKellen reciting Shakespeare's "Twentieth Sonnet" to the psychedelic music of The Fleshtones has surfaced—thanks, internet! It happened on a 1987 episode of MTV's "Andy Warhol's Fifteen Minutes," a brief venture between the late pop art legend and the music cable channel.
According to Dangerous Minds, music writer Joe Bonomo described the McKellen/Fleshtones pairing as "The kind of marriage of high and low art prized by Warhol." (He also claims McKellen accepted The Fleshtones invitation to the East Village's legendary club The Pyramid "for some alternative East Side divertissement."
