It's been almost 20 years to the date since "The Lion King" premiered and became one of the most beloved family movies ever created.

Now, Disney plans to extend the franchise, which includes 2 1/2 sequels and a wildly successful Broadway play, with a new TV series for Disney Junior, "The Lion Guard."

The show will follow Kion Simba, and Nala's second cub, who leads a team called "The Lion Guard" whose mission is to protect the Pride Lands. It will include appearances by Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu, Mufasa, and Kion's older sister, Kiara, who you might remember from "Lion King 2." Hopefully the series will share the wonder of the original movie and teach the newest generation of Disney lovers about "the circle of life."

To create "The Lion Guard," Disney enlisted the help of wildlife education consultants from Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park. Sarah Mirza, a Swahili expert, will act as language and cultural advisor.

"The Lion Guard" will premiere first as a made-for-television movie in Fall 2015, and the series will follow in early 2016 on Disney Junior and Disney Channel. Be prepared.
