We have an excuse to go nuts for doughnuts today—it's National Doughnut Day!

Everyone, including celebs, are celebrating by indulging in free glazed treats from select doughnut shops, including Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, and Canadian eatery Tim Hortons.
This must be making fellow doughnut enthusiast Homer Simpson so happy.

According to the holiday's official site, the Salvation Army created the event in 1938 to honor the people who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. We're sure they appreciated the treat.

It certainly brightened the day of "Young and the Restless" actress Jessica Collins, who marked the occasion with a lovely piece of glazed heaven from District Donuts in New Orleans.

"Inside Edition" host Deborah Norville also posted on WhoSay about the day.

Even President Barack Obama got in the action.

Comedian Jim Gaffigan, however, has been doing his part all along.
