Paul Wesley is not afraid to admit he was nervous his first time.

"The Vampire Diaries" co-star, who debuted as director of Thursday's episode of the wildly popular The CW show, admitted to experiencing jitters on his first day as director.

"I had been hearing the word 'action' for 15 years, but it was always from behind-the-camera," said Paul in a recent interview. "To say it was really a weird feeling," he added.

Wesley told the Hollywood Reporter that one of the biggest challenges he faced was getting into the mindset of a director. "The most daunting thing was whether or not I could psychologically embody the feeling of a director towards the cast," Paul said. "I was nervous but when I got to set the cast was so supportive," he added.

As it turns out, one of the most supportive fellow cast members was Nina Dobrev—who gave Paul a life-size portrait of herself as a gift in support of his directorial debut. "A giant portrait of Nina Dobrev. It was huge and now it's hanging in my dressing room. Ha!" said Paul.

And if you loved Thursday's "The Vampire Diaries" episode, "Resident Evil," you'll be even more excited about the news of his return as director for Season 6. "This is not something that is sort of a one-time thing for me ... I'm gonna do more episodes next year," he announced
