Mickey Rooney, the Hollywood legend who appeared in more than 300 films, including silent ones and recent blockbusters, died Sunday at the age of 93

Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith said Rooney was with his family when he died at his North Hollywood home.

Rooney, who starred in successful MGM musicals from the 1930s and '40s, had recently appeared in "The Muppets" and "Night at the Museum"

"My partners weren't what we call, in horse racing parlance, routers," he said back in 1993. "They were sprinters. They went out of the gate, but then they stopped. They couldn't go the distance," he added.

Rooney's career honors include the Academy Award (including a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award in 1982), Golden Globe and Emmy.

R.I.P., Mickey Rooney.
