"The Vampire Diaries" Remembers Sarah Jones
"The Vampire Diaries" cast and crew are mourning the passing of camera assistant Sarah Jones, who died February 20 when a freight train struck her while filming "Midnight Rider," a biopic about Southern rock musician Gregg Allman. She was 27.
"My heart is heavy," tweeted "TVD" costar Ian Somerhalder, who said Sarah was like a sister for him on the set of the CW popular show. "Our #TVDfamily lost a loved one. Beautiful soul. A dear friend," posted his "Vampire Diaries" costar Nina Dobrev on WhoSay.
Meanwhile, a petition campaign has been launched to include Sarah Jones in the "In Memoriam" segment in Sunday's Oscars telecast. "Only 27 years old, her promising life was cut short when she was struck by a train working on a dangerous set," the petition reads. "Crew members are the unsung heroes of film and television production who work long hours and sometimes very dangerous conditions for the love of filmmaking. Sarah Elizabeth Jones was one of us."
Sarah Jones' friends and family also created the Facebook page "Slates for Sarah," where film colleagues can show their "slate love" by posting film slates dedicated to Sarah.
"In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to:
BC Education Foundation Sarah Jones Scholarship Fund c/o Brookland-Cayce High School 1300 State Street, Cayce, SC 29033," the Facebook page reads.
R.I.P. Sarah Jones.
